Som'One Music
On the road and putting down roots
Music is a universal language that transcends borders, barriers and differences. It reaches audiences who are not always receptive to societal issues. We admire it for its intrinsic qualities that make us vibrate deep within ourselves. And we appreciate it for its mobilizing power, particularly among youth, to engage together in processes of transformation toward a more just and sustainable society.
Som'One Music runs two complementary projects: one on the road, the other rooted in place. Going to meet artists where they are, and offering them a space to create, learn and connect.
Our mission
Our objectives
Welcome
Host international groups in residence for creative and recording sessions in an inspiring setting.
Connect
Bring together international artists and local musicians for one-of-a-kind collaborations and sonic crossovers.
Train
Train young people in music careers: recording, production, sound engineering and artist management.
Produce
Discover, support and produce emerging talent from the West African music scene.
On the road
Nomadic Music
Our mobile recording studio — a soundproofed container equipped with professional gear, loaded on a truck — travels across Africa to meet artists where they are.
From the most remote areas to the vibrant neighborhoods of major cities, the sound convoy stops, records, and opens dialogue with local communities. International producers collaborate with artists to ensure professional quality recordings.
Each stop yields something different: recorded music, stories, radio podcasts, documentaries and research on how people experience sustainable development through music.
Putting down roots
Studio & Residency — Thiafoura
In Thiafoura, in the heart of Senegal's Petite-Côte, we are building a professional recording studio and artist residence. A grounded counterpart to the mobile studio, where musicians from around the world can settle in and create.
The project is run in collaboration with Natty Jean, a towering figure in Senegalese reggae and a deeply engaged artist. Together, we are building a space where international artists in residence and local musicians can meet — a melting pot of collaboration and sonic crossover.
The Thiafoura studio doubles as a training center: hands-on courses in recording, production, sound engineering and artist management for local youth. A launchpad for emerging talent who lack access to professional infrastructure.
